Online File Viewer for PDF and Office Documents from Zoho

view office files online

Zoho Viewer is a web based file viewer for PDF documents and Microsoft Office files like DOC, XLS and PPT. The one advantage here is that it works inside the web browser and requires no installation as in the case of Microsoft File viewers or Universal Viewer.

GMail has something similar but with Zoho Viewer, you can upload documents and view instantly without signing-up. Alternatively, you can paste the URL of any document that's already on the web. Bulk upload supported.

You can email the link to this document using the 'Share' option or you can embed it in your web pages just like Scribd. The service will become popular especially for converting documents to other formats but there are issues. I tried uploading three different PDF documents but had the same error message - "Problem while converting file. Please try again."

While Scribd converts the PDF or Office file into a SWF Flash movie, Zoho Viewer creates a static PNG image of your document when embedding in web pages. The text and images are therefore non-selectable in either of the cases. [via Zoho PR]

If this type of thing interests you, I might suggest you also check out http://www.docufarm.com . This is a great site that displays files as images to be seen rather than actually downloading and opening them locally.

It works for pdf, doc, rtf, ppt, pps, ps, gz, and xls (and this list grows occasionaly, too).

They offer a firefox extension that will automatically redirect links of any of those filetypes to be redirected and displayed on docufarm (VERY useful); they also offer a small bit of javascript that can be included in your website to accomplish the same thing as the extension (i.e., for those users not using Firefox).

Hi Amit,

As soon as you reported, we fixed the problem in pdf import 3 days back. Kindly check it out and let us know your feedback.

Regards
Ramesh
