Convert Email Messages or Word Documents to PDF Online using Google Docs
Here's a very simple way to create PDF files online without buying expensive PDF tools or installing any virtual PDF printer drivers. The output PDF file will look exactly like your source document preserving all the text formatting, hyperlinks, tables and even embedded images. We'll use a feature in the just introduced Google Docs & Spreadsheets Suite that lets you create new online documents by emailing them directly to a secret email address. The documents can be sent as an email attachment or even as a rich text email.
Here's a step by step approach to creating PDF file from your rich-text email messages or a Word document using Google Docs [support for spreadsheets is expected soon]
Step 1: Assuming you already have a Google Account, get your unique email address here where you'll be sending the documents. [under Email-In Your Documents or Files]

Step 2: Using GMail, Outlook or any other email service, compose a new email message. Either attach your Word document or create a rich-text email message. Send this email to the address you copied in step 1.

Step 3: You will soon receive an email message back from Google Writely containing a link to your document on the Google Docs server. Open the document inside Google Docs.
You can also edit the document inside Google Docs in either HTML mode or the Rich-text mode itself. Don't forget to save your changes.Step 4: This is the last step - click the Google Docs File menu and choose Save as PDF. Select any folder on the hard drive and your PDF is ready.
The whole process takes less than a minute.
Quick Tip: You can also use the Google Docs email-in feature to upload more than one document in a single email message.

The Word Processor part which they got with their acquistion of Writely is somewhat okay, but I do feel that the spreadsheet is lousy.Zoho Sheet(www.zohosheet.com) appears more versatile and feature rich.
Amit, Someone could spam your google docs using your secret email id (shown in this post) given by google docs to you right?
savvy - i did strip the email id of some characters before posting the screen capture.
rajesh - the biggest component that's missing in Google spreadsheet is Charts.
Thanks Amit. I also tried to paste some Hindi content in UTF-8, written on Uninagari online editor, then to convert it to PDF. The results were not good. It came out as blank. Perhaps because, as a standard default, it does not embed fonts.
You could upload the file and convert it.It's easier.
Very interesting! I'll have to try this. Thanks.
Amit,
Another good post at your blog. keep going such good work. Don't you think such tips etc can be collated into e-book or a print book...I will be keen to know your views on this and see if can collaborate in some way or the other...
The only problem is that this is restricted to files of size < 500KB.
One more easy method. No registering, no signing-in required. Go to http://www.zohowriter.com/editor.im
Copy paste your document contents there and click on the 'Save As' button at the top-left. You will see 'PDF' as one of the options there.
@ Masoomjanwar : Thanks!
an rtf containing jpgs does not work when importing
Thanks Amit - I'd had loads of trouble with online pdf creators and this gives me another avenue to explore and a chance to look at google docs while I'm at it.
Cheers

I also highly recommend the free PrimoPDF printer driver. The only limit to what types of documents you can turn into PDFs is what you're able to print on Windows! Works great with XP; they claim to support Vista too.
Looks like they also have an online service, too.
Google primopdf, since we're apparently not supposed to post URLs...
I found this firefox add-on called loop. Its an extension that allows you to upload most files and it automatically converts them to pdfs. You can even put in a URL and it will convert it into a pdf. LOOP also allows you to combine all of the uploaded files into one pdf. I think you can even use this service without firefox.
