Autodesk reacts to Sketchup, releases Google Earth export tool

AutoCAD developers Autodesk today released a free Civil 3D 2007 add-on for Google Earth. This utility offers a wizard-approach for publishing Google Earth KML files within the Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 interface.

Autodesk Civil 3D 2007 Extension for Google Earth requires that Civil 3D 2007 and Google Earth (Free, Plus, Pro) already be installed.

Google Earth has registered more than a 100 million downloads in just one year. The application is immensely popular and Autodesk can see the threat posed by Google Earth-Sketchup duo.

Therefore this free add-on is a very logical step to prevent Autodesk users from turning to Sketchup. I think in near future, depending on the popularity of this extension, Autodesk would release Google earth export plugins for their entire product base including 3DS Max, Maya, AutoCAD, Revit and others.
