iPhone vs Nokia N95, BlackBerry Curve, Treo, Samsung BlackJack

Just ten days ahead of the much-hyped iPhone launch, Apple has released a smartphone matrix comparing the physical dimensions, talk time and battery life of some of the most popular smartphones that are available in the market today.

As per the matrix, Apple iPhone is the thinnest smartphone (half the thickness of N95 or Treo 750) with the largest screensize and Wi-Fi capabilities. [pdf]

While there's no option to swap the drained battery of an iPhone with a full recharged one, the promised eight hours of talktime and 250 hours of standby time should bring enough cheers to those who are planning to queue up outside the Apple stores at 0600 hours June 29, 2007.

In related news, a new report has suggest that 19 million Americans have strong interest in buying the iPhone, 67% of who are subscribers on other carrier networks.

Update: Nokia N95 is a Wi-Fi enabled phone and Apple has now updated the phone comparison chart.

According to GSMArena.com website:

The Nokia N95 has WiFi 802.11 b/g, and its talk-time is 6.5h.

Your Comparison is Lame standing upto the standards of an Indian Analyst...It's the most biased comparison i've ever come across

1.)To start with you have indexed only that specs in which Apple's Iphone has an edge and intentionally skipped the one's in which Iphone has been owned by it's competitor's like the "dot clarity" N95's screen may be small but it has much clarity compared compared to Iphone..
2.) You haven't mentioned that Apple's Iphone only has 2 Mega Pixel Camera compared to 3.2 or 5 MP of others like N95 ...(if you are okay with it than i'd say the author of a Tech Blog is too cliched to live in 2005)

3.)Explain the reason for not mentioning the fact that Apple does not 3G ?

4.) You Fagot, Stop having cow piss which is holy for you morons and ponder over a thought of including Fish and Milk on your Menu that will boost your minds Grey matter.

Why am i saying this ?

Cause Nokia's N95 has 802.11b/g WiFi functionality Huycb said

I will be keeping my Treo! I love it. I love the fact that it is 22mm thick . I have had so many phones in the past years, but the Treo is my favorite.

The comparison chart is by Apple themselves. They have corrected it to acknowledge N95's WiFi.

Scoble has listed N95's features not listed by Apple (for obvious reasons, will someone ever tell you why not to buy their stuff?)

Link for Scoble - Link

P.S - Gizmodo also posted the same graphic and later retracted it. So I guess this post needs correction too.

samwitch: You are intolerant and your comments smacks of racism. First of all, Amit said that it is a release from Apple. He is just reporting. Secondly, if you do not like what you see here, why are you here?
As a blogger or techie or as a plain normal person, we should encourage competition. Let us give innovation a chance!

You forgot to mention Motorola Q which is the toughest competitor for all.

I am a Nokia N95 user and it has WiFi support. Its talk time is near 6 hours and not just 4 hours...

Love your blog Amit!
I juuuust got a Curve - it is super neat for all that I needed the most important one being a good physical keyboard!

Mrinal, I am Jealous :)

This is a wrong comparison. Your information on Nokia N95 is not correct ( Wifi. etc). You took some of the features of the Iphone and compare those with other models. You never mentioned about the Camera ( N95 has a 5.0Mega Pixel). You never mentioned about the GPS. You don't talk about the weight of the phone, you don't talk about the operating system, you don't talk about cost etc etc. You have missed out some of the most important elements of the comparision.

I use the Blackjack...it does video, it does mp3, you can browse at 3G speed, it has a 2 MP camera, it has a slot for cheap mini SD cards (2 GB, 4 GB whatever you like)...only thing that is not supported is wifi...

This is really an apples and oranges (or whatever fruit Nokia is) comparison. Two entirely different devices for two entirely different market segments.

Comparing the iPhone feature for feature with the N95, it will come up horribly short. Just like the iPods come up short (e.g., no voice recording, no FM radio, etc..) when compared to many other handheld media devices.

Compare for example the iPhone's bluetooth and that on the N95. The iPhone can use its bluetooth to pair with a headset and with a car kit, that's it. The N95 (and many other phones) can in addition use it to transfer files, sync with a PC, connect bluetooth keyboard, GPS and many other devices, you can connect it to a PC over bluetooth and use it as a modem, etc.

The iPhone is also not open for 3rd party developers, while smartphones have a plethora of 3rd party software available. As such, it would be a misnomer to call it a smartphone and you can't really compare it with them.

The point is, the iPod isn't considered one of the best in its class because of a feature checklist. It is because Apple is good at UI - they make devices that do a few things, and do them well. There's that 'it just works' factor.

The iPhone is for those who want an iPod, a cell phone and an Internet tablet in one. Wrapped up in that Apple UI experience.

The N95 is for the power user or gadget geek that wants the top of the line swiss army knife of cell phones.

Hey, both these phones are for different segments according to me. I mean the n95 is usually bought for it's features by people who understand computers and modding. People who have n95's usually mod and customise them heavily and have(2have) an indepth idea of softwares and computers. Also the styling is way off.

The i-phone on the other hand is aimed at the cool dudes out there. These people don't need a 5mp camera( cuz they're not photographers?) nor the gps(not going trekking!) nor the dual slide...which is a waste of time and very clumsy too being full of bugs.

But in the end ibouht myself a n95 :D..
i've posted sum things bout it in my blog .. do come sumtime and we'l cotinue this debate mayb...

I just took the leap and got the curve, it's great! I installed the opera mini browser and it's fantastic. I think it's a good, functional, and priced right. You have to find the phone the suits your life! It's all about balance -of curse wifi does sound good. Though, I think Nitendo DS might make a wifi, handheld game device that's touchscreen, mobile phone compact, and will be amaziliy fun too! - interviewup.com

My Curve 8320 has wi-fi, and it has Java which iphone doesn't. Battery talk time is 10 hours on it. Besides apple is for american lazy common people...

N95 wins hands down ...........no contest.its taken a long time for nokia to take back the crown from the others , but credit where its due :-) ...and as for iphone pay for music, pay for video..pay pay pay................. chose this and your a real sad muppet

I have both the iphone and the N95 (newest version with 8GB) the N95 is the best phone out there hands down. Price, features, functionality and the fact that all features on the N95 are available without being tied down to ATT's 2 year requirement or T-Mobile in Germany. Apple needs to get with the program and unlock this phone. It is a decent phone but does not perform with 3G or HSDPA like the N95. Additionally, give me the 5Meg camera with Carl Zeiss optics over a 2Meg anyday.

I have additional phones as well from nokia, samsung, and motorola...the N95 smokes them all.

DID I MISS SOMEBODY MENTIONING THE BUILT-IN GPS RECEIVER IN N95....

AND JUST TO MENTION THAT TOM TOM 6 ALSO WORKD ON N95 :)
