How Many Hours Do You Spend on Blogging Each Day ?

Mario Lavandeira How many hours of blogging is enough ? We all have different schedules depending on the size of our audiences and whether we blog as a hobby or as a full-time profession.

A recent report published in the Wall Street Journal states that writers of breaking-news blogs work anywhere between 40- to 60-hours per week.

But there's a bigger surprise, 28 year old Mario Lavandeira of PerezHilton.com (the most popular blog in the world), says he averages 19-hour workdays that start at 5:15 a.m.

The upside - millions of visitors and tons of moolah. The downside - a 19 hour blog day leaves you with just five hours for sleeping, brushing teeth, eating and spending time with the family. And Mario honestly admits that - "I have no life, I am always working, and I can never take a vacation."

I generally spend 10-12 hours a day on this blog but that involves not just writing the posts - a decent amount of time goes in maintaining the site, responding to user comments, exploring new services / software and following up with web plagiarists.

How would you describe a typical day in your blog life ?

Thats a good information. Indeed shows that blogging is not big time easy money but has plenty of work that comes with it.

I spend an hour a day working on five blogs(all small ones), but this comes after completing my obligations of a full time work. And I am sufficiently happy with the traffic I generate and the money it brings.

That's why a tech blog is much more difficult to write than a non-technical ones..

Non-technical ones can merely keep their audiences coming with one-worded posts..

Technical ones like yours require much more backstage work, which makes it all the more challenging...

Yup, agree that full time blogging is not an easy job too. It requires alot of time and effort, just like any other work

yup...i spend about 3-4 hours a day with my blog on movies http://www.123masala.com I also run other celeb site that takes some site.

I cant afford to spend more time...as I also have a full time job in IT co....happy blogging guys

In BTW I love reading this blog...keep up the gud work!!!

You do spend 10-12 hrs a day on your blog Amit, but as you've mentioned before "Who else would give you moolahs for just sitting on your couch and browsing the net?"

But offcourse, that is just a soft way of saying "Groin Pain" ;) I know how hard it can be to find original content. That is why, I can't help blog about your posts some times. But, rest assure that I give everyone of my Gurus full credit to their write-ups.

"Blogging for profit" sounds to me like much work and little pay. You are running a small news company and need to stay on top of things all the time.

I try to use my blog to sum up things that interest me. So the time I spend vary with the topic at hand.

The upside to writing a blog is that I need to do good research before I post anything as I don't want any comments like "you're wrong". Luckily for me I don't have any readers :)

I'm doing the reverse, I'm blogging hoping that I'll get a job at Nokia.

It is cutting in to my school life, but to be honest my college experience has been less than stimulating for a long time.

Luckily for me I don't have any readers :)

LMAO...good one

Rajan

Looks like so much of work. But when u enjoy it, it's not like work.

But really, it's not that easy as it sounds. U've to be focussed.

I hv a day job and I put 2 hrs on the blogging job. It's fun for me right now. God knows what future holds for me.

Well just coz you said you spend 12 hours a day blogging, I thought I would point out a stray ";" sign at the bottom of your webpage. (The place where you are displaying news aggregators like Yahoo, Google Reader , Bloglines etc.)

Currently it shows "&;nbsp;"

Btw, way to go :-) Thumbs up for your excellent work over the years. Keep posting.
