Technorati Link Cosmos Explained in Simple English

When you search for blog URLs on Technorati [sample search], it shows a list of conflicting numbers on the search page which can be pretty intimidating for someone who don't know about the Technorati Ranking System.

While Technorati maintains a list of all RSS-supporting websites linking to a particular blog URL, it considers inbound links for only the last six months while calculating the Blog Rank.

The figures you see in the above screenshot are explained in detail below. They represent the Technorati inbound link counts for Digital Inspiration and based on the excellent explaination by Brian Pinkerton:

* Rank 538: the number of blogs that have 1,615 blogs or more linking to them
* 4,635 links: the number of links pointing at this URL in the last 180 days
* 1,615 blogs: the number of distinct blogs pointing at this URL in the last 180 days
* 5,415 links: the total number of inbound links since the blog existence.

You can generate the above chart for your blog by replacing labnol.blogspot.com with the URL of your blog address. Change the days parameter and you'll see some amazing data about your inbound link graph.
