Hindi Kalam: Type Hindi using English Keyboard, Mix Other Languages

HindiKalam.com is a new website for writing text in Hindi with English alphabets using the standard QWERTY keyboard. [Kalam means a Pen]

While the Hindi typing features in Hindi Kalam are much similar to the popular Quillpad [read review], one feature that simply rocks in HindiKalam is the Hindi Spell Checker - a a big help when you are unable to form those complex Hindi words using any permutation of English characters.

Hindi Kalam has this additional feature where you can also mix text from any other language like English, French or even Chinese. Just enclose the text inside square parenthesis and HindiKalam would skip converting that to Hindi.

Though Quillpad lets you type in most Indian languages, Hindi Kalam, as the name suggests, is limited to only Hindi.

Hindi Kalam - Writing Hindi was never so easy

Thanks Devashish Fuloria for the tip who writes "The best thing is that it works according to the QWERTY keyboard making hindi writing very easy for rare users like me."

Microsoft Phonetic Input Tool is another great tool for writing hindi using english keyboard, Its available here http://bhashaindia.com/phonetictool

I like Phonetic Input tool. Works with any windows, कभी भी किसी दूसरे website पे जाने और copy-paste करने की जरूरत नही पडती।

Does not work if you do not have "Vishwa Vijay" font on your computer. Being a webservice, I find it lame that they do not anticipate this. Pretty lame IMHO.

Shrini - I am not sure of such a requirement - I don't have that font on my systm and the site still works.

Piyush - That's the killer feature which you illustrated in the comment. You suggested Phonetic earlier also but the thought of seeing an additional toolbar on my screen holds me back.

I am not sure about the use of this application. With a english educated population, I dont this such a technology is required; Unless internet penetetrates to the hinterland of india.

I almost read that as Hindi Kalam (as in the President). I'll spare you the PJ :) but a good tool.

Patrix - I had exactly the same thought when I first noticed the Hindi Kalam website.

Amit, thanks for the nice recommendation. I feel hindi kalam is easier to use than any other web based tool I have seen for writing Hindi.

This website/page could incorporate the feature "Tell a friend" - so that one could mail their friend the URL of this useful resource, without opening their email.

Amazing site - it is WAY faster than quillpad.

I need to translate documents from english to hindi for spritual classes
which are given once a week at free of cost.

Can you please help me to find the software.

Thanks
