If your blog regularly links to stories published on The New York Times, here's a tool to ensure that the story links don't expire and your site visitors can read the full NYTimes story, not just a 250 word preview without registration.
The New York Times Link Generator
Why would you need the NYTimes link generator ? Because the story links published in the New York Times RSS feeds expire after a few days and then they automatically redirect visitor to the TimeSelect login panel where they have to buy a subscription to access the article.
This tool will generate a blog-safe link to the New York Times story so that when the New York story moves to the premium section, visitors can still access the story without subscribing or paying a fee.
Here's an example:
The following three URLs point to the Amanda story on The New York Times. While all of them lead to the full stories at the time of writing, they will move to the Premium section after a few day.
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/07/arts/07rock.html? ex=1309924800&en=20c360b0d2e505ef&ei=5088& partner=rssnyt&emc=rss
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/07/arts/07rock.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/07/arts/07rock.html
I put the above URL in the New York Times Link Generator and here's the new link which will work forever without requiring registration.
