Laptops not allowed inside the classroom

Bill Gates' big dream is that someday tablet PCs will replace textbooks for all students. But I doubt if that may ever happen.

Agree, Tablet PCs may get cheap someday they may not survive the ire of university professors who are already against students using laptops in classes - they believe that students use laptops for web surfing and playing online games instead of taking class notes on the notebook.

Some professors went to the extent of banning laptops in the classes. In one case, a professor permitted laptops this past year to compare the difference in students' performance. His conclusion: Don't allow laptops.

In my opinion, laptops with no internet connections should be fine. You may sitting in an interesting Maths class but if you receive an urgent email from someone, won't you get distracted and read it ? Some may even want to reply at the very moment.

What is your take on the issue ?
