Microsoft Windows Live Family Safety Settings software allows parents to filter Web sites and receive reports to see what their children are doing online.
Parents will also be able to control who communicates with their children over e-mail, instant messaging or access their kids' blogs on MSN Spaces blogs.
The feature called "contact management" will let parents approve contacts on Windows Live Mail and Windows Live Messenger.
Windows Live Family Safety Settings will compete with other internet filtering products, including Safe Eyes from SafeBrowse.com, NetNannyfrom LookSmart and CyberPatrol from SurfControl.
Microsoft Xbox Live also allows parents to monitor the activities of their children during online game play, including disabling voice communications. They can be set to grant or restrict access to offline games and DVD movies based on the game rating and movie ratings respectively.
